The Cytryn lab explores and exploits microbes in agroecosystems. We investigate "who is there", "what they are doing", and "how they are doing it" (key questions in microbial ecology and environmental microbiology) by targeting single microbes and complex communities using cultivation, and advanced "culture-independent" molecular and bioinformatic methods.
Our research currently focuses on understanding the dynamics and mitigating the spread of microbial pathogens and antimicrobial resistance in agroecosystems, and on exploiting microbes to combat plant and animal disease.
